This fall we held our Teen Clothes Drive and collected more than 75 bags of clothes and life essentials for people facing food and home scarcity. Over 100 different people from our community participated and we also collaborated with local organizations to collect clothes—including our local Amazon station. Take a look at the fun we had bringing people together to make a difference for families in need in our local community.
We partner with Willow Creek Care Center, Journeys, and Goodwill Industries.
We acquire donated goods from local businesses and fill Care Pack for persons struggling with housing instability, food scarcity, and homelessness. Providing people with essential personal items brings great joy. In addition to physical goods, we include a handwritten note of encouragement in our care packs to send a message of hope and remind each person that they are seen and valued.
Care Packs include life-essential items such as gloves, winter hats, socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, and hygiene products. We also like to include items like gum, protein bars, water bottles, lip balm, and tissue packs. Gift cards to chain restaurants can give people access to public restrooms and the opportunity to enjoy eating indoors as paying customers. In climates where summers are hot and winters are bitter cold, these can be invaluable.

From a worldly standpoint, having a closet that needs cleaning out is a privilege. Plus, clearing out clothes and shoes doesn’t have to feel like a chore. These drives build awareness and momentum with little or no cost—and they help! Many families struggle to make ends meet and covering basic needs like clothing can be a challenge. Local organizations that provide clothing options in such times are often short on gently used and desirable clothing for older children and teenagers. New Way Necessities conducts clothing and shoe drives to rally students for an easy win. We mobilize kids in the local community so they can help other kids in the same community. Our mission is to link arms with people and local organizations to create multiple benefits. And it’s far more fun to work and grow together!
Many students like to craft. Making blankets for those exposed to the cold sends a message of care, warmth, and encouragement. Crafting together is a fun way to hang out, be creative, and make a difference for others. Getting donations for material is a big help since the expense of fabric is high. Organizing outings to pack meals or seeds with local organizations is one way to leverage our footprint. These organizations have global networks and partners who are organized to provide food for countries ravaged by war, famine, drought, and extreme poverty. Creating opportunities to recruit volunteers, fuels the efforts of organizations like Minnesota-based Feed My Starving Children or Willow Creek Care Center in Illinois.
